Most of us don’t think much about the socks we wear, but people who are homeless think about them all the time.
The protection of a good pair of socks can save them from frostbite in the winter and can protect them from injuries of the foot that can lead to painful and even life-threatening infections and diseases. Finally, well-protected feet are key to the mobility that is vitally important to them.
Your school, church, club, organization, or group of friends can help people who are homeless by holding a “sock drive” to meet this important need.
Simply specify a period of time during which people are encouraged to purchase some new socks and donate them to the drive. Alternately, or additionally, you can hold a special event, such as a party or a picnic, where the “admission fee” is one or more pairs of socks.
We can use any kind of socks, as long as they are new and in their original packaging, bags or fasteners:
- White, black, or colored socks
- Work socks or dress socks
- Socks for men, women, children and infants
- Special socks for people with foot pain or diabetes
You can also have the option of collecting cash donations to be used for purchasing socks.
When you have completed your sock drive, you can drop them off at our office (if you’re in the New York City area) or ship them to us at:
1991A Lexington Avenue
New York, NY 10035
Thank you for helping our friends who are homeless… your kindness and consideration is deeply appreciated and makes a big difference in their lives!
