Access to clean, safe drinking water is one of the greatest challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness. It’s necessary for life, but often hard to find.
There are very few sources of public drinking water in the city, especially since Covid-19 safety concerns have shut down most drinking fountains.
During the summer months especially, access to water is a matter of life or death. Many homeless people suffer dehydration, or illness from drinking unsafe water.
LEFSA distributes drinking water as part of its street outreach. We prefer bio-degradeable containers, which are better for the environment.
