The Sisters of Charity of New York are proudly celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Life Experience and Faith Sharing Associates (LEFSA) ministry, marking four decades of compassionate spiritual support for the homeless community in New York City. Founded in 1986 by Sister Dorothy Gallant, SC, and Sister Teresa Skehan, RSM, this vital initiative creates supportive faith communities within local shelters, drop-in centers, and street outreach programs.
LEFSA fills a critical void by offering unhoused individuals a sense of dignity, hope, and personal responsibility alongside essential community guidance. The anniversary celebration kicked off with Angela Francois leading the community in a moving song of thanksgiving to honor forty years of dedication, transformation, and shared faith. Many of the ministry’s current team members were once clients themselves, exemplifying the powerful, enduring cycle of healing and giving back that defines the organization.
Here is to 40 years of being the hands, feet, and heart of hope on the streets of New York!
