NY/NY IV: Sign the Petition for 35,000 Units of Supportive Housing
On October 23, 2015 LEFSA attended a public forum for Campaign 4 NY/NY Housing at New York Society for Ethical Culture. Over 315 groups representing affordable housing, social services, faith-based and homeless prevention organizations were present.
The campaign is to urge the Mayor and the Governor to commit to the establishment of supportive housing units for the most vulnerable New Yorkers –including the mentally ill, physically disabled, frail elderly, and domestic violence survivors.
Supportive housing is the most successful way to end homelessness for individuals and families living with disabilities and other challenges. Housing with on-site support services is proven to end homelessness for people with the highest barriers to housing.
The goal is to create 35,000 units of supportive housing statewide over the next 10 years.
