On Friday, October 6th, 2017, LEFSA participated in Mental Health First Aid Training. The workshop was facilitated by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and arranged by the Community Coordinator for the Center for Faith and Community Partnership at the Office of the Mayor.
The workshop took place at the LEFSA office, 30 people participated. The workshop was 8 hours long and covered topics related Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Psychosis and Substance Use Disorders. The goal of the workshop was to provide tools and steps in recognizing certain sign and symptoms related to various disorders, provided sensitivity training as well as gave tools for approaching a situation of mental health crisis. In the end of the workshop all of the participants were awarded a Mental Health First Aid Certificate, which is valid for 3 years.
