Homelessness is a Tragedy—Not a Crime
James Addison and Karolina May attended a press conference at City Hall on October 14th, where Picture the Homeless and the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing advocated for homeless people whose rights are being violated. Together they urged Mayor DeBlasio and NYPD for a better response to this public concern.
“These are very challenging times for all of us who are concerned about those who are homeless,” said the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing. “We know our city and our NYPD can and must do better to respect the rights of the most vulnerable New Yorkers.”
This press conference was held in response to the trends of victimizing and shaming homeless individuals. As James said earlier this year, “homeless people are not the problem.”
