Extending the Reign of God through Community Building: Everyone at the Table

LEFSA’s Leadership Study Day theme for October was “Extending the Reign of God through Community Building: Everyone at the Table.”

We showed a film titled “Everyone at the Table” about hunger among children and families across the United States. Afterwards, we wrote letters to particular senators and representatives urging them to protect child nutrition programs from harmful policy changes. The letters were addressed to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Charles Schumer, and Representative Charles Rangel.

You can get involved by sending a letter to your representative (please see example letter below).

Marc Greenberg from Interfaith Assembly on Housing and Homelessness also gave us an update on NY/NY IV Campaign.

Dear Senator or Representative______________________,

I am concerned about child hunger in New York because:

Please protect child nutrition programs from harmful policy changes and improve children’s access to these programs while not cutting other safety-net programs like SNAP.

Children nutrition programs serve as a lifeline for America’s vulnerable children and their families. As your constituent, I urge you to protect and improve child nutrition programs.

Sincerely,

Your Name
